Homes for the Holidays: Coming Together, Despite the Weather

Each year, Homes for the Holidays is an opportunity for each Slumberland location to make an impact and help their community – as we say, Homes for the Holidays is our most important mattress event of the year.

This year in West Fargo was no exception, although blizzard conditions prevailed on the day of the event. General Manager Derick Vettleson and his store team had connected with many community partners – the Salvation Army, Knights of Columbus, local mayors, local news stations, and more were all ready to contribute.

The day before the event brought snow and winds at 50 MPH, and news stations reached out to say blizzard coverage would likely take precedence over Homes for the Holidays. But at 3:30 AM on the 6th – the day of the event – Derick received an email from a reporter asking if they could still make the broadcast happen. Starting at 5:10 AM, their live broadcasts focused on the premise that they were still bringing mattresses to kids despite the weather conditions.

While difficult travel conditions made it impossible for some people to attend, three local mayors stopped by. Mayor Dardis of West Fargo sent the following response to the event, which perfectly sums up the community value that Homes for the Holidays offers.

“Thank you again for your efforts for these people in need. The generosity of Slumberland and you is amazing. I am honored and privileged to tell my fellow Commissioners and the public that the West Fargo Slumberland helps these people in need in this manner. Your corporate culture is one to be admired and envied.”

Congratulations to Derick and the entire West Fargo team. You have truly embodied the mission of Homes for the Holidays, 40 Winks, and Slumberland as an organization. Now, let’s bring the same holiday cheer and compassion to all of our Slumberland communities!
